What can you use the app for?

Ficly is an online community where you can find something to do even if you only have 15 minutes to spare. It was created by its founders as a way to spend your lunch break. It’s a good idea where people can write short stories themselves, the limit is 1,024 characters. People are free to either write their own story from scratch, continue someone else’s story or just read other peoples. Rather than serious fiction this site is only for short stories which means anyone can enjoy it in their spare time.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

Ficly is a site designed to replace a previous site known as fliclets which was founded by Jason Garber and Kevin Lawver. Kevin was the major driving force behind this new incarnation of flicly which is a similar idea. Jason and Kevin both designed a memorial apparently to provide a home for all the people that loved the original site.

What are the differences to other apps?

This application is quite a good idea; it’s a great way to spend your lunch break. The idea is that you can easily write short stories or continue someone else’s stories with just 1,024 characters. There are a few similar sites on the internet however the limit makes things very interesting. It makes sure that you carefully choose the right words for the right job. It also ensures that you don’t waffle on and get straight to the point. This means that the stories are not only quick to write, but they are also very quick to read.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

Ficly isn’t an unattractive web application and has quite a nice clean look. Popular stories are mentioned on the home page which makes it really easy to find something that you might want to read. All of the stories have tags which their writers choose; this can make it really easy to find stories that you are interested in reading. Writing your own story is also surprisingly easy once you are logged in.

How does the registration process work?

You need to have an account on Ficly in order to read or contribute to the site. However you don’t actually need to register as you can use a variety of different types of accounts that you might already have including Google or openID. Even if you log in with these you will still have to create your own profile which will take some time. They won’t check your email address because you don’t actually need it to sign up.

What does it cost to use the application?

Ficly is completely free to use and it doesn’t seem to be supported by any noticeable adverts. It’s not known how this site makes money. It looks like this site is only designed for fun and was set up when the funding partners of the original site pulled the plug. It seems to of been set up as more of a hobby than a way to make money and has a very popular following.
